Mary
“Saddlebags never hold everything you want, but they CAN hold everything you need.”

Mary is an Advanced Practice Nurse who has been with the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center for 17 years.  Mary obtained her Master of Science in Nursing and is also a certified CPR instructor. Currently, at the VA, she spends much of her time functioning as a clinical applications coordinator, instructing the doctors, nurses, and students on how to use the electronic medical record.

Mary rides a 2003 Anniversary Edition Electraglide Ultra Classic. Mary has ridden over 60,000 miles on this bike, making the trip to Milwaukee for the 100th anniversary celebration of Harley Davidson as well as to Sturgis.  She has made numerous trips to Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington, many times by herself.

Mary feels there is nothing as fantastic as riding the twisties through the mountains and along the rivers and farmlands of this great northwest. She hopes to share these experiences with others.

 Sam Stivison
 Sam
“The more you know, the better it gets.”

Sam purchased his first motorcycle (BSA Spitfire 650) in 1967 while he was in the US Army Aviation School on his way to Vietnam.  Upon returning from Vietnam, he purchased a Honda CB750.  When Honda introduced the Goldwing in 1976, Sam was among the first to have one.

Sam took time out from riding while he and his wife Sandy raised two sons, but got back into riding in 1998 when the boys were pretty much on their own.  Sam and Sandy purchased a 1500 Goldwing and used it for long distance motorcycle touring and camping with groups and on their own.  They have logged many miles together including several trips to British Columbia.  They have owned a variety of motorcycles including Suzuki Intruder and Kawasaki KLR and presently ride either a Honda Goldwing 1800 or Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic enjoying the best of both worlds!

After 36 years of government service, Sam retired in 2005 and has avidly pursued his main interest of riding big touring bikes.  He recently added golf to his recreational program.  He continues his life long participation in racquetball and is aggressively working on becoming fluent in Spanish.  Sam is a veteran instructor with Skills Training Advantage for Riders (STAR), the State of Idaho motorcycle safety training program that offers training for both beginner and experienced riders.
